The photographs in this album were taken by Zion and Herzl Azrad during a family trip to Morocco in December 2007. Zion Azrad's parents, Chaim Ben Aishe Machlof and Rivkah, the daughter of Bida and Aharon, were born in the city of Meknes, Morocco. His father was a shoemaker, and his mother, a housekeeper. They had 7 children. The family attempted to come to Israel in 1947, but the British sent them to a detention camp in Cypress. In 1948, with the establishment of the State of Israel they came to settle here. Chaim Azrad worked as a gardener. He passed away in 1993. His wife, Rivkah, died in 2004. Rivkah Azrad requested that her son, Zion, visit the grave of his grandfather Aharon, her father, who was close to 100 when he died, who is buried in the Old Jewish Cemetery in Meknes. Herzl, Zion's nephew, joined him on this journey. This album includes photographs of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in Morocco: the Rabbi Shalom Zaoui synagogue in Rabat; Rabbi Shlomo Even Danan Synagogue in Fez; Beit Hachaim Cemetery in Fez (and the Jewish Museum there); Slat Al Azama Synagogue in Marakash; Old Jewish Cemetery in Meknes; Jewish Cemetery in Mogador and the grave site of Rabbi Chaim Pinto; and pictures of the Jewish quarter in Fez, Rabat and Marakash. اقرأ أكثر
